2Goal Difference

Imagine two teams both have a 60% win rate. One wins 1-0 every game. The other wins 4-0. Goal Difference captures how dominant a team is per match.

In professional soccer analysis, a Goal Difference of +0.5 per match is considered solid for an international team. Above +1.0 is strong — the level of a consistent World Cup contender. Above +1.5 is exceptional and rare, typically seen only in historically dominant sides. A negative Goal Difference is a red flag: the team concedes more than it scores on average.
